Flowers, fruits, friends, oh my!

Welcome to the party theme of the month where, you guessed it, I recommend a party theme that you should give a try this month. May - the first taste of summer and the bookend of spring. For this month, I really wanted to capture that feeling; hence: May Day. May Day is a European festival of ancient origins marking the beginning of summer. It is a celebration of life and growth which, as someone who graduates college this May, feels very fitting. So, here are my tips on hosting the perfect May Day Party:

  • Vibe/Decorations:

Flowers galore! Pick up some fresh bunches at your local florist (or Trader Joe's in a pinch). If you can, consider hosting a dinner party outside OR inside by some candlelight.

  • Food & Drink:

Here we're all about potlucks because if you're anything like me, you love to host but your wallet, not so much. So, tell your friends to bring a dish and a drink. Think charcuterie boards with seasonal fruit and veggies (strawberries, blueberries, citrus, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, etc.). If you're going full dinner party mode - a spring salad or sun-dried tomato pasta are great for big groups. For drinks, think pink wines or pale ales OR opt for the perfect spring cocktail and our cocktail of the month: The Clover Club!

  • Attire:

'Tis the season for spring dresses and linen tees! For this party, think cottagecore - if Frog & Toad would wear it, you're on the right track. Bonus points for flower crowns!

Activity No. 1

Make your own bouquet!

Take a trip to Trader Joe's and have each person pick out a small bunch of flowers (don't worry some are only $3.99). Make sure everyone chooses something different! At the party, you can lay them all out and have everyone make their custom bouquet (Pro tip: take some paper Trader Joe's bags to wrap them in).

Activity No. 2

Bring back the 2010 summer bucket lists!

With summer on the horizon, it's the perfect time to whip out the paper and markers and channel your inner middle-school self. Write down all the places you want to go, things you want to do, and people you want to see before the leaves turn brown again. Here's a good place to start:

  • Three new places to go (new restaurants, museums, parks, etc.)
  • One new hobby to try (from gardening to the banjo, just try something new!)
  • Two new friends (or reconnect with old ones!)
  • One new activity to get your body moving (hiking, yoga, stretching, etc.)
